Sport must remain a unifying force in a world shaken by conflict. This was announced on March 3 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

"In a world shaken by conflicts, disagreements and tragedies, where people are dying and many are experiencing terrible events, the International Olympic Committee firmly believes that sport must remain a beacon of hope - a force uniting the whole world in peaceful competition," the IOC said in a statement on its website.
