The florist gave tips on prolonging the life of tulips after March 8
To prolong the life of tulips, it is important to follow a few simple rules: put them in cold water, change it daily, maintain a water level of 5-7 cm, and trim the stems by 1-2 cm every two days. Anna Kotelnikova, a florist and expert at the FMART by flowwow network of flower studios, told Izvestia about this on March 7.
As the expert noted, choosing the right tulips is the first step towards their longevity. When buying, you should pay attention to the bud: it should be elastic, dense and closed, without dry edges or creases. Such a flower is at the beginning of the opening phase and will gradually bloom at home. If the bud is soft and wide open, it means that the flower has already reached the peak of flowering and will not last long.
"There are long-lived varieties among tulips. For example, yellow tulips can stay in a vase for more than a week. The secret is that their buds don't fully open at all. Such tulips just keep growing, reach their maximum, and only then wither," the expert noted.
To prolong the life of tulips, it is important to follow a few simple rules. The main thing is to put them in cold water, changing it daily. The optimal water level in the vase is 5-7 cm, and it is important not to forget to trim the stems by 1-2 cm every two days. The expert also advised to make sure that the lower leaves do not get into the water to prevent its turbidity and the development of bacteria.
According to the expert, tulips can only suffer from top dressing, so you should avoid using universal products with glucose. Also, you should not forget that tulips do not like places that are too warm: it is better to keep them away from batteries, direct sunlight and household appliances that emit heat.
"You should not put them next to fruits: the ethylene they emit accelerates the ripening and wilting of flowers. If you choose the right flowers and follow simple care guidelines, a bouquet of tulips will delight you for the entire prescribed period, and even longer," Kotelnikova said.
On March 3, Ulyana Makhova, an assistant at the Department of Polyclinic Therapy at the Institute of Clinical Medicine at Pirogov University, said that on March 8, one of the most useful gift options is a certificate for a medical check-up. According to her, when choosing services, it is worth considering the age of the woman. So, at the age of 20-35, a check of the reproductive system is relevant, including a gynecologist's examination, ultrasound and basic tests. At the age of 35-50, it is recommended to additionally examine the thyroid gland and ferritin levels, and after 50, undergo densitometry, an examination with an ophthalmologist, and check the lipid profile.
