In the European Union (EU), there has been a significant shift in the position of European countries on the launch of the Druzhba pipeline, as Europe began to realize its disastrous energy decisions. This was announced on March 3 by Kirill Dmitriev, special representative of the President of the Russian Federation, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).

"A significant shift in the EU's position, as they begin to realize how their catastrophic decisions on energy have created huge risks that are now materializing due to the conflict in Iran," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

Dmitriev stressed that the economic decisions made by the EU based on ideological motives turned out to be erroneous. He also noted that the EU may have already been too late in making the right decisions on this initiative.

Earlier in the day, the Financial Times newspaper reported that some EU governments had asked Ukraine to provide access to the Druzhba pipeline in order to assess the damage and ensure that Kiev was working to restore it.

Cypriot journalist Alex Christoforou, in turn, said that the EU should force Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky to resume oil supplies via the Druzhba oil pipeline.

In addition, on February 26, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban demanded that the EU check the condition of the Druzhba pipeline. He expressed the opinion that the assessment of the condition of the Druzhba pipeline could help unlock financing for Ukraine from the EU.
