Some countries of the European Union (EU) oppose the accelerated entry of Ukraine into the union. This was reported on March 3 by the Reuters news agency, citing sources.

"Ukraine's desire for accelerated EU membership within the framework of any peace agreement has met with fierce resistance from EU governments, who do not want to open a Pandora's box with problems, fearing what this rapid integration will cause," the article says.

According to the newspaper, in particular, France and Germany expressed skepticism about the proposed reform of the accession process of the Ukrainian side, which would shorten the country's path to EU membership. At the same time, among their concerns, it was noted that Ukraine itself and other countries would not continue reforms, such as the fight against corruption, if Kiev joined the EU.

The day before, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that Ukraine would not be able to join the EU while Prime Minister Viktor Orban was in power in Hungary. On February 24, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky demanded that the West set a date for the country's accession to the European Union in 2027.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also stated on January 28 that Ukraine's accession to the EU before January 1, 2027 is impossible, since all states wishing to become members must meet the Copenhagen criteria.
