Otorhinolaryngologist, phoniatrist, Ph.D. Daria Kharina said that you can use headphones every day, but failure to follow basic safety rules can lead to serious hearing impairment and the development of fungal infections.

In an interview with the "Paragraph" on Tuesday, March 3, the expert explained that it is important to observe the restrictions: do not listen to music louder than 60 dB for more than an hour in a row and take breaks every 60 minutes to reduce the risk of functional hearing loss. She noted that the higher the volume, the less time you should spend wearing headphones.

According to the doctor, models with active noise reduction are considered the safest, as they allow you to reduce the overall volume. It is better to give preference to overhead headphones, since in-ear headphones create a closed environment favorable for the reproduction of fungi and bacteria, and can also injure the ear canal. The specialist recommended that the device be treated regularly with antiseptic.

In addition, the expert warned that frequent use of in-ear models can contribute to the formation of sulfur plugs, so those who constantly listen to music with headphones should visit an otorhinolaryngologist at least once a year.

Earlier on March 3, neurologist Ekaterina Demyanovskaya told Izvestia that hearing loss may be associated not only with ear diseases, but also with damage to the central nervous system. According to the specialist, one of the most common neurological causes of hearing impairment is the neurinoma of the auditory nerve, which is also called vestibular schwannoma.

On the same day, Life.Ru wrote that, according to the World Health Organization, today more than 1.5 billion people live with hearing impairments. By 2050, this figure could rise to 2.5 billion. To preserve hearing, Larisa Vylegzhanina, a sign language therapist, advised following a few simple rules: turn down the volume when listening with headphones, regularly pause in silence, use earplugs at concerts and in noisy environments, and do not overuse cleaning your ears with cotton swabs, writes 360.ru .

On February 11, Ivan Kalmykov, chief specialist in otorhinolaryngology at a network of clinics, told RIAMO that overhead headphones are the safest. Such a gadget does not cause blockage of the external auditory canal and does not put pressure on the eardrum, RT clarifies.

Last December, general practitioner Andrey Kondrakhin said that it is better to use over-ear headphones in cold weather. According to him, this is due to the fact that the ears will be hidden from the effects of cold air by "a pillow that is on the headphones," the NSN notes.
