The expert named the common mistakes of men when choosing a gift for March 8.
On the eve of the holidays, men often make the same mistakes when choosing gifts, focusing on the appearance or making a decision at the last moment. Natalia Semenova, fashion expert and art director of the French brand Michel Katana, told Izvestia on March 5 why it is important to take into account not only the cost and visual appeal of the present, but also its meaning.
According to the expert, one of the common mistakes is to focus solely on the visual appeal of the gift. Men often choose spectacular things without thinking about how appropriate they will be in everyday life. Meanwhile, the modern culture of gifts is increasingly inclined towards conscious consumption. Versatility, practicality and compatibility with the wardrobe are becoming important, and not just the external shine, Semenova added.
In addition, the expert stressed that nowadays a gift is more often perceived as an element of personal communication. Its value is determined not so much by its value as by its inherent meaning.
"That is why symbolism associated with the history of relationships or significant memories plays an important role. Even relatively simple gifts can be perceived much more strongly if they have a personal meaning. The emotional component of a gift is often more important than its value," said Semenova.
In addition, haste is another factor that leads to poor choices. When a decision is made on the eve of a holiday, a man is more likely to focus on the availability of goods, rather than on the tastes and preferences of a woman. As a result, the gift may not reflect either the intentions of the giver or the depth of the congratulations. Preparing in advance allows you to make the choice more thoughtful and personal.
According to Semenova, the moment of presentation is no less important. Thoughtful atmosphere, sincere words and attention to detail — from the packaging to the furnishings — enhance the impression of the gift.
"A few thoughtful details, such as a calm environment, sincere words, and attention to gift packaging, help create the feeling of a special moment. This approach allows both partners to take a break from everyday work for a while and feel again the emotional connection that often arises at the beginning of a relationship, when attention to each other was the main meaning of communication," she concluded.
Yuri Semichastnov, head of courier services at the Flowwow flower and gift marketplace, said that the greatest rush to buy flowers falls on the two days before the holiday — March 6 and 7. This year, it is expected that demand on these days will grow 5-10 times compared to the average number of purchases in other periods. According to the expert, the optimal time for placing an order is from March 1 to March 3. Flower shops receive new supplies and understand which bouquets will already be collected for the holiday. This allows you to distribute the workload among employees.
