- The political scientist questioned Trump's thesis about the possibility of the United States waging "endless wars"
US President Donald Trump's statements about the unlimited American military arsenals and the ability to wage endless wars contain internal contradictions. Yevgeny Zlenko, a political scientist and project manager at the Polylogue Group, told Izvestia on March 3.
"In his statement, Trump gives a very contradictory assessment of the situation, because after talking about unlimited US stocks, he says that former White House chief Joe Biden transferred most of the weapons from the Pentagon's reserves to Ukraine," the expert said.
In addition, Zlenko believes that the thesis about the ability of the United States to "wage war forever" should be considered as an element of anti-crisis communication. According to him, the conflict with Iran has already led to significant losses: American bases in the Middle East have been attacked, there are dead soldiers, and losses of expensive weapons have been recorded.
An additional factor of tension was the situation around the Strait of Hormuz, which plays a key role in the global oil trade. According to the political scientist, Tehran's actions in the region, including attacks on the infrastructure of Saudi Arabia and the UAE, have a serious impact on global markets. At the same time, attacks on Israel are continuing, to which the Hezbollah movement has joined.
The expert noted that the escalation carries image risks for Trump against the background of the upcoming midterm elections. In his opinion, Iran's strikes on American facilities demonstrated the vulnerability of air defense systems and became a wake-up call for US allies in the region.
"Moreover, Washington has admitted that it is unable to quickly replenish the ammunition used up in the region by its allies. While, according to various estimates, Tehran is armed with about two thousand ballistic missiles and significantly more cheap attack drones," Zlenko explained.
The political scientist paid special attention to the role of Israel. According to him, even the hypothetical possibility of the United States waging a prolonged conflict does not mean that such a scenario applies to their key regional ally. According to him, Israel cannot fight Iran indefinitely. This is the most vulnerable point of Washington's Middle East strategy. The expert added that further escalation could lead to extremely unpredictable consequences.
On the same day, Trump declared that the United States has an "almost unlimited" supply of weapons and is capable of waging wars "forever." President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that the country may face difficulties in obtaining enough missiles and other weapons due to the conflict over Iran. He stressed that air defense systems, missiles and other weapons systems are necessary for the United States and its allies to wage a conflict with Iran.
The Ukrainian edition of "Country.ua" stated that the consequences of the US military operation against Iran may be associated with risks for Ukraine. It was noted that valuable equipment will be redirected as a matter of priority to combat threats from Iran.
