Ukraine has received the first tranche of $1.5 billion under the new IMF program
Ukraine has received the first tranche from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the amount of $1.5 billion under the new four-year Extended Financing Program (EFF). This was announced on March 3 by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko.
"Ukraine today received the first tranche from the IMF under a new four—year program under the Extended Financing Mechanism (EFF), $1.5 billion has already been credited and will be used to finance priority budget expenditures and support macro-financial stability," she wrote on her Telegram channel.
On February 26, the IMF approved an $8.1 billion loan to Ukraine as part of a new four-year financial support program. The first part of the provided financing in the amount of $ 1.5 billion was planned to be sent to Kiev "immediately." It was assumed that all funds would have to be spent on maintaining macroeconomic stability and rebuilding the country.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced on February 23 that the country had blocked the 20th package of sanctions against Russia and the allocation of a loan to Ukraine worth €90 billion due to Kiev's shutdown of the Druzhba oil pipeline. However, the European Union still plans to approve a loan of €90 billion to Ukraine, despite Hungary's blocking of this initiative.
