Szijjarto summoned the Ukrainian ambassador because of the mobilization of Hungarians
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Monday, March 2, that he had summoned the Ukrainian ambassador to the country's Foreign Ministry, and the reason for this was "forced mobilization, of which Transcarpathian Hungarians are becoming victims."
"The local authorities [in Ukraine] have launched a manhunt to send people to the front. We have received reports of two new Hungarian victims during an open manhunt and forced mobilization," he said in a video message on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).
Szijjarto said on February 8 that the country would not tolerate the forced mobilization of ethnic Hungarians from Transcarpathia into the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Then Budapest reacted to the forceful mobilization of ethnic Hungarians in Transcarpathia.
The Minister stressed that what is happening confirms the need for an early end to the conflict. He expressed the opinion that forced conscription should be stopped immediately. Budapest has declared its readiness to provide any assistance to the detained Hungarians.
On February 25, a Hungarian citizen surrendered to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. According to him, he was mobilized by the territorial recruitment center on the border with Hungary. The man said that he had never passed a medical examination so quickly. According to the prisoner, doctors fictitiously assign health categories to conscripts. He also stated that he considers his transfer to the unit to be a biased decision on the part of the staff of the military enlistment office, since "less than one percent of them return alive from there."
