Fears are growing in the US Department of War and the Donald Trump administration that the conflict with Iran will spiral out of control and drag on for weeks. This was reported on March 2 by The Washington Post, citing sources.

"There is a tense and paranoid atmosphere," one of the interlocutors described the situation in the department.

According to WP, senior officials are concerned about the shortage of interceptor missiles for missile defense systems needed to repel massive Iranian strikes.

"The United States underestimated this problem," another source admitted.

The situation may worsen if Tehran continues its attacks with the same intensity. Washington also fears that the conflict is becoming uncontrollable.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation in Iran. Trump called her goal "protecting the American people." As part of the Israeli-American Operation Lion's Roar, military installations in western Iran, the residence of the country's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as an elementary school in the city of Minab were hit.

In response, Iran launched Operation True Promise 4 and attacked American military bases in the Middle East, as well as Israeli cities. Later, on March 1, it became known that the supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed as a result of Israeli attacks. An interim governing council has been established in the country.
