Oil tanker attacked off the coast of Oman
The oil tanker MKD VYOM, flying the flag of the Marshall Islands, was attacked by a crewless boat off the coast of Oman. The incident occurred 25 nautical miles off the coast of Muscat province. There were more than 59 thousand tons of cargo on board the vessel. After the attack, an explosion occurred in the tanker's engine room, followed by a fire. According to the Omani authorities, an Indian citizen was killed.
The remaining 21 crew members were evacuated by the approaching commercial vessel MV SAND, flying the flag of Panama. Among the rescued are 16 citizens of India, four citizens of Bangladesh and one citizen of Ukraine. The Royal Oman Navy sent a ship to monitor the damaged tanker.
Al Jazeera TV channel reported on March 2 that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Prior to that, on March 1, the IRGC announced that Iran had launched missile strikes against three American and British tankers in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. It was clarified that a fire had occurred on the tankers.
