Zelensky signed a law on the forced evacuation of children
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has approved a legislative act allowing the evacuation of children from territories at risk of hostilities, even against the wishes of their parents. This was reported on March 2 in the Telegram channel of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
"Zelensky signed a law on the mandatory evacuation of the population, in particular children, from the territories of active and possible military operations. The document allows for the evacuation of children from places of active hostilities, even if their parents refuse," the report says.
Previously, the Ukrainian edition of "Country.ua", with reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, informed that the Verkhovna Rada supported the initiative to forcibly relocate minors from areas where hostilities are taking place, regardless of the consent of their parents.
On February 11, Maria Lvova-Belova, the Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights, criticized the decision to forcibly evacuate minors from areas where fighting is taking place, regardless of their parents' consent. She expressed concern that the innovation could lead to abuse.
