Visitors and staff at Cyprus' second largest airport in Paphos are being evacuated due to reports of a drone sighting. This was reported on March 2 by the Cypriot newspaper Philenews.

"Paphos International Airport was immediately and completely evacuated on Monday afternoon after the discovery of an unidentified drone in the airport's airspace," the publication says.

It is specified that after 13:45 Moscow time, the security services instructed passengers and staff to leave the airport due to increased readiness amid drone strikes on the British Air Force base Akrotiri on the island.

On the same day, the Republic of Iraq's air defense systems repelled an attack by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and missiles recorded near Erbil airport. In total, three vehicles were destroyed as part of the drone destruction operation. They are believed to have been heading towards US military bases in northern Iraq.

Military installations in western Iran, an elementary school in the city of Minab, as well as the residence of the country's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was later also killed, were hit. On March 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian in connection with the murder of Khamenei.

In response, Iran launched Operation True Promise 4 and attacked American military bases in the Middle East, as well as Israeli cities. Later, on March 1, it became known that the supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed as a result of Israeli attacks. An interim governing council has been established in the country.
