There were 328 road accidents in Russia over the weekend.
Over the past weekend of February 28 - March 1, 2026, 328 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 33 people were killed and 452 injured. The 26 dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on March 2 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
10 bus accidents were registered, in which one person was killed, and 17 more road users needed medical attention. Three bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.
As a result of 79 accidents involving pedestrians, 7 people were killed, and another 75 were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 14 child pedestrians, half of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in designated areas. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 29 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 50 occurred outside their area of operation.
42 accidents involving minors were recorded over the weekend, in which 51 young road users were injured, including 34 passengers. One child passenger was killed.
So, in one of the settlements of the Udmurt Republic on the first day of spring, a 33-year-old drunk driver of an unregistered ATV ran into a snow bank and overturned the vehicle on the roadway. The accident killed the driver's six-year-old daughter, who was riding an ATV without a helmet.
The State Traffic Inspectorate called on road users not to remain indifferent to the problem of drunkenness at the wheel and promptly inform the police about drivers who behave inappropriately on the road while driving drunk. Traffic police officers are ready to take all necessary operational measures to respond to such reports.
"We strongly recommend drivers to refrain from driving vehicles in a drunken, tired or sick state, especially if you risk taking passengers with you. Remember that the life and health of the people you are transporting depend entirely on the skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding behavior of the person behind the wheel. We also draw the attention of drivers to the strict observance of the rules for the safe transportation of children. Take care of your young passengers, preventing even the prerequisites for a possible tragedy," said Police Colonel Sergei Hrantskevich, head of the Department for the Promotion of road safety and prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
In addition, the State Traffic Inspectorate stressed that the lack or negligence of driver's control over the safe transportation of preschool and primary school children, as well as parents' inattention to their leisure time and behavior on the street, often lead to injuries or deaths of young road users.
According to operational data from the State Traffic Inspectorate, in February 2026, 803 road accidents involving children occurred in the Russian Federation, in which 20 minors under the age of 16 were killed and 871 injured.
On February 21, it became known from the statistics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia that Moscow recorded the lowest death rate in road accidents among the regions of Russia by the end of 2025. The death toll in road accidents in the capital was 2.2 people per 100,000 population. This is the lowest level among all Russian regions.
