The political scientist allowed the Middle East conflict to go beyond the region
The conflict in the Middle East is already going beyond the regional confrontation and may affect neighboring territories, including the Caucasus. Denis Denisov, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia on March 2 about the risks of further escalation and possible scenarios for the development of the situation.
According to the expert, the conflict has already gone beyond the exclusively regional confrontation in the Middle East. He noted that currently one of the key parties is the United States, which automatically gives a broader scale to what is happening. In addition, incidents related to the bases of European states were also recorded, which also allows us to talk about the transformation of the conflict from a local to a larger one. Currently, as Denisov emphasized, the risk of further expansion remains.
"Naturally, this conflict will also affect the regions of the Caucasus. That is, in fact, of course, it is already taking on all the outlines of a conflict affecting more regions than just the Middle East region," the politician noted.
According to Denisov, the scenario of two parallel tracks seems to be the most realistic in the coming months: the continuation of hostilities and simultaneous negotiations. Thus, diplomatic contacts will accompany the conflict, but not determine its dynamics.
"So we are faced with another new serious challenge for the entire system of international relations, and naturally this conflict will have an extremely negative impact on it, further unbalancing it," he concluded.
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation in Iran. Trump called her goal "protecting the American people." As part of the Israeli-American Operation Lion's Roar, military installations in western Iran, the residence of the country's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as an elementary school in the city of Minab were hit.
In response, Iran launched Operation True Promise 4 and attacked American military bases in the Middle East, as well as Israeli cities. Later, on March 1, it became known that the supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed as a result of Israeli attacks. An interim governing council has been established in the country.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov expressed disappointment at the failure of negotiations between the United States and Iran on Tehran's nuclear program. He noted that Russia is in constant contact with the Iranian leadership and discusses the situation around the conflict. In addition, negotiations are underway with the countries of the Persian Gulf that are affected by the military operation.
