The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is currently not preparing for a ground invasion of the Lebanese Republic. This was announced on Monday, March 2, by the official representative of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Nadav Shoshani.
"There is nothing on earth that indicates the imminent start of a ground invasion or preparations for it, but, I repeat, we must be prepared for any scenario," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
An IDF spokesman confirmed that his State has increased the number of troops along its border with the Lebanese side. These measures, he explained, are necessary in order to protect the occupied territory and civilians in the event of an attack.
The IDF began attacking Hezbollah targets in Lebanon in the morning of the same day as part of its offensive operation against the Hezbollah movement. The chief of the Israeli General Staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, announced many "long combat days" in the region. The Lebanese Ministry of Health later reported that 31 people were killed and another 149 injured as a result of Israeli attacks in their country.
On February 28, the IDF press service called its strikes on Hezbollah's infrastructure facilities in southern Lebanon a response to the violation of the ceasefire agreements by representatives of this movement.
