Matvienko called Khamenei's murder an encroachment on Iran's sovereignty.
The assassination of Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is an encroachment on the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic, as well as a gross violation of international law. This was stated on March 1 by the Chairman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, in a message of condolences sent to the Speaker of the Assembly of the Islamic Council of Iran, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
"The atrocity committed is a blatant encroachment on the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic, a gross violation of human morality and international law," RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.
Matvienko noted that members of the Federation Council were shocked by the tragic news of the violent deaths of Khamenei and his family members, as well as other representatives of the country's leadership.
"The aggression of the United States and Israel against Iran is an act capable of causing serious damage to regional and global stability," she said.
