Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian said on March 1 that Tehran considers revenge for the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as its legitimate right and duty.

"Iran considers it its duty and legitimate right to avenge (the perpetrators) of this historic crime and intends to use all opportunities to fulfill this great obligation," he said.

He also expressed condolences over Khamenei's death, saying that "the path of this great man will continue."

Earlier in the day, it became known that the supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in an attack by the United States and Israel. Against this background, rallies began in the country.
