On March 1, a law officially came into force in the Russian Federation, according to which the ash-leaved (or American) maple is an invasive plant. As specified in the Federal Forestry Agency, a fine is now threatened for its distribution.

Now summer residents must get rid of these plants on the plots. The law provides for fines for inaction ranging from tens of thousands of rubles for citizens to hundreds of thousands for organizations. So, for non—compliance, individuals face a fine of up to 50 thousand rubles, officials — up to 100 thousand rubles, and legal entities - up to 700 thousand rubles.

In some cases, a court may decide to seize land if the owner has not stopped the spread of harmful plants, she said. Lenta.Ru .

In February, the ash-leaved maple, as well as the Sosnovsky hogweed, were included in the list of invasive and alien species prepared by the Federal Forestry Agency as part of the implementation of new federal legislation. At the first stage, two species were included in the list — the ash-leaved maple, also known as the American maple, and the Sosnovsky hogweed. For each forest area, it is prescribed to take measures to identify these plants, prevent their spread and subsequent destruction.

Experts noted that the ash-leaved maple poses a serious problem not only for forest ecosystems, but also for urban areas. Alexey Reteyum, Director of Development at the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation, stressed that the ash-leaved maple displaces absolutely all native plant species.
