This opinion was expressed by political scientist Anton Bredikhin in an interview with Izvestia on March 1.

"Khamenei's death does not mean the automatic removal of the ruling regime, which is what Trump was hoping for," the expert noted.

According to Bredikhin, the American leader hoped that mass protests and opposition demonstrations would begin in Iran after the first bombings, but this did not happen — the Iranian society did not take to the streets, and the government remains in control.

The political scientist is sure that Iran has long had a plan of action for such a case: successors have been prepared in advance and a strategy for providing information to society has been built, so that a new spiritual leader will be announced immediately.

"Apparently, in his address to the nation, Trump will emphasize that Americans will have to count on a longer war, a full—fledged war, and there will be heavy casualties among the military," the expert added.

Earlier in the day, Trump warned that Iran would be hit even harder if it tried to respond to the attack.
