Svetov, a political analyst, called the attack on Iran part of Trump's plan.

The escalation between the United States and Iran is not a "small victorious war", but part of a large-scale strategy of the American President Donald Trump. This opinion was expressed by political scientist and publicist Yuri Svetov in an interview with Izvestia on March 1.

"Trump started something like Star Wars, a saga that consists of a number of episodes. The first episode can be considered the capture of [Venezuelan President Nicolas] Maduro, <...> now what is happening with Iran <...> is the second episode. <...> Then Cuba, Greenland, Canada and so on will follow," Svetov believes.

He said that one of the key episodes is unfolding in the situation around Iran. In his opinion, this simultaneously serves as a warning to Arab countries about the need to behave like US allies, is aimed at weakening the Iranian regime, and is also a signal to China to make it difficult for it to supply oil in the context of a possible future conflict over Taiwan.

According to Svetov, at the moment the advantage is on the side of the United States: they have managed to eliminate the supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has been in power since 1989. The head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the Minister of Defense and the Secretary of the Defense Council were killed along with him.

"Instead of Khamenei, a temporary collegial body has been created, where everyone has their own ideas about how to act. I think the next goal of the United States and Israel may be this council. In addition, such attacks became possible thanks to assistance from inside Iran," the political scientist added.

He also pointed out the mistake of Tehran striking civilian targets in Arab countries. In his opinion, this may encourage the Arabs to support Washington even more actively.

Russia's permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, said on February 28 that the aggression directed by the United States and Israel against Iran has already led to an aggravation of the situation in the region and may go beyond its borders. The diplomat stressed that the actions of Washington and Tel Aviv risk turning into a humanitarian and economic catastrophe.
