The Air Defense Forces destroyed nine unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that were heading towards military installations in southern Iraq. This was reported by the Iraqi INA news agency on February 29.

"Nine drones attempting to attack military installations in Basra and Dhara were shot down," the publication says.

Israel attacked Iran on the morning of February 28. Also, the American leader Donald Trump announced the beginning of a US military operation against Iran. Military installations in western Iran, the residence of the country's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as an elementary school in the city of Minab were hit. Later, Iran fired rockets towards Israel. Four US military bases in Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain were attacked, as well as the US Fifth Fleet service center.

Later, the large Iraqi paramilitary movement Najba expressed its readiness to support Iran in the conflict.

Russian Leader Vladimir Putin discussed the situation around Iran with the permanent members of the Russian Security Council. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov condemned the "unprovoked armed attack" by the United States and Israel on Iran.
