Iran has declared no desire to possess nuclear weapons
Iran has never had any intention of developing nuclear weapons and negotiated with the United States out of goodwill. This was stated on February 28 by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, Abbas Araqchi, in an interview with NBC.
"We never wanted nuclear weapons," said the head of Iranian diplomacy.
Araqchi stressed that Tehran has consistently participated in the negotiation process with the American side, demonstrating a constructive approach. The statement was made against the background of strikes carried out by the United States and Israel on military installations in Iran.
France, Germany and the United Kingdom, against the background of the worsening situation in the Middle East, stated that they had repeatedly called on Iran to curtail its nuclear and ballistic missile programs, as well as refrain from destabilizing actions in the region.
On the morning of February 28, Israel launched a preemptive attack on Iran. At the same time, the US president announced the beginning of a military operation by the state against Iran. During it, military installations in western Iran, the residence of the country's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and an elementary school in the city of Minab were destroyed.
Subsequently, Iran sent missiles towards Israel. In addition, the US Fifth Fleet maintenance center was shelled in Bahrain. Iran also carried out an attack on four US military bases in Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. Because of this, the United States began evacuating some personnel from the Al-Udeid air base in Qatar.
At the same time, the IDF launched a massive airstrike on military installations in western Iran. The strike was carried out on the city of Shiraz. In addition, 70,000 Israeli reservists were conscripted into military service.
Russian Leader Vladimir Putin discussed the situation around Iran with the permanent members of the Russian Security Council. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Russia demands that the situation around Iran be immediately brought back to a political and diplomatic settlement. In turn, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov condemned the "unprovoked armed attack" by the United States and Israel on Iran.
