The UN Security Council will hold an urgent meeting on the situation around Iran

Russia and China have requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council in connection with the US and Israeli strikes on Iran. This was announced on February 28 at the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the world Organization.

"In connection with the unprovoked act of armed aggression by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Russian Federation and China have requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council," the diplomatic mission's Telegram channel says.

The meeting is scheduled for 16:00 local time (00:00 Moscow time) on Saturday. France, Bahrain and Colombia are also convening the meeting.

The permanent mission stressed that the actions of Washington and West Jerusalem constitute a direct violation of international law. It is emphasized that such dangerous adventures are aimed at destroying peace, stability and security in the entire Middle East region.

Russia intends to demand that the United States and Israel immediately cease their illegal actions and return to a political and diplomatic settlement. Moscow has confirmed its readiness to provide the necessary assistance in this process.

In addition, Iran attacked four US military bases in Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. Against this background, the United States began evacuating some personnel from the Al-Udeid airbase in Qatar.

At the same time, the IDF launched a massive airstrike on military installations in western Iran. The city of Shiraz was attacked. In addition, 70,000 Israeli reservists were called up for military service.

Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the situation around Iran with the permanent members of the Russian Security Council. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Russia demands that the situation around Iran be immediately brought back to a political and diplomatic settlement. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov condemned the "unprovoked armed attack" by the United States and Israel on Iran.
