The protected compound of Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran was damaged as a result of Israeli strikes on Tehran. This was reported on February 28 by The New York Times.

"Satellite images show a black cloud of smoke and serious damage," the newspaper writes.

The residence where Khamenei usually stays and holds meetings with the country's leadership was significantly damaged. Information about the whereabouts of the leader himself has not yet been received.

Israel launched a preemptive strike on targets in Iran on the morning of February 28. US President Donald Trump has confirmed that the United States has launched a large-scale military operation against Iran. He assured that "he will take care to deprive Iran of the opportunity to obtain nuclear weapons."
