Fraudsters swindled 10.5 million rubles from a 16-year-old teenager in Krasnoyarsk

In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a 16-year-old teenager became a victim of telephone fraud, as a result of which the family lost 10.5 million rubles. This was reported on February 28 in the press service of the Prosecutor's office of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

"A fraudster called a schoolboy from Krasnoyarsk and introduced himself as a courier for one of the well-known delivery services. The teenager hesitated, but thought it could have been a birthday present from his mother, who had recently dictated an SMS code at the caller's request," the department's Telegram channel says.

It is specified that later the boy received calls from people who introduced themselves as employees of the mobile operator and an employee of the Ministry of Digital Economy. They reported that the transferred code turned out to be in the hands of scammers and now the family's funds are at risk.

Under the pretext of "declaring" savings, the attackers convinced the teenager to videotape the rooms in the apartment. During the so-called check, the student discovered the safe. He handed over its contents to the courier, who gave him a pre-agreed code word.

As the victim explained, the scammers threatened to put him and his father in jail if he contacted law enforcement officers.

A criminal case has been opened into the incident under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud committed by an organized group on an especially large scale").

They create phishing emails and deepfakes, as well as write scripts for malware.

On February 28, Angara Security experts reported a fraudulent flower delivery scheme from "fans." In the run-up to March 8, there has been a sharp increase in fake websites imitating the pages of popular online stores on the Internet and messengers. Scammers lure victims with "unique offers" and discounts that disappear after paying for a non-existent product, leaving the buyer without money and without a gift.
