Merz called the truce in Ukraine a condition of negotiations with Russia
A precondition for peace talks with Russia is a truce in Ukraine. This was announced on February 27 by German Chancellor Frindrich Merz at an election event in Volkmarsen.
"There was only one precondition: if we want to talk (about peace. — Ed.), then at least the weapons should be silenced," the German newspaper Tagesspiegel quotes Merz as saying.
Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy chairman of the Federation Council's International Affairs Committee, said on February 27 that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, speaking about a possible meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, was making loud statements for effect and behaving in bad faith.
On February 26, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow does not have a deadline for the Ukrainian settlement, but there are tasks that are being solved.
