Secretary of State Rubio urged Americans to leave Iran immediately
On February 27, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio appealed to US citizens to refrain from traveling to Iran and slowly leave the country. This was announced on February 27 by the press service of the US Department of State.
"No American should go to Iran for any reason. We once again call on Americans currently in Iran to leave the country immediately," Rubio said in a statement.
In addition, the Secretary of State said that the United States recognized Iran as a "sponsor of illegal detentions." According to Washington, the Iranian authorities allegedly systematically detain Americans and other foreign citizens in order to exert political pressure on foreign countries.
The State Department also warned that if Tehran refuses to release the detainees, Washington may consider additional measures. In particular, we are talking about the possible introduction of restrictions on the use of American passports for travel to Iran or transit through its territory.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on February 26 that Iran rejected key US demands for a nuclear deal. It is clarified that the American side demanded the elimination of three Tehran nuclear facilities in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan, as well as the transfer of a stockpile of enriched uranium to the United States.
