Argentine Senate approves reduction of criminal liability to 14 years
In Argentina, the Senate has approved a new criminal code, according to which the age of criminal responsibility for minors will decrease in the country. This was reported on February 27 by the newspaper Clarín.
"The government has won another victory in its legislative campaign and, following a successful extraordinary session, celebrated the Senate's approval of the criminal code for minors, the central point of which is to lower the age of criminal responsibility from 16 to 14 years," the publication says.
It is specified that 44 senators voted for the adoption of the code, 27 people opposed it, and one abstained. The next step is to send the document to the president for signature.
On February 13, the Argentine Congress passed a bill on the reform of the juvenile criminal justice system, according to which the age of criminal responsibility will be lowered to 14 years.
