Media reported on Paramount's acquisition of Warner Bros. for $110 billion
Paramount Skydance (PSKOV) has acquired the Warner Bros. studio. Discovery (WBD) for $110 billion. This was reported on February 27 by the Reuters news agency, citing the director of revenue and strategy at Warner Bros. Bruce Campbell.
"Netflix had the legal right to match the offer with the offer from PSKOV. As you all know, they eventually decided against it. As a result, an agreement was signed with PSKOV this morning," Campbell said.
As the agency noted, this agreement ends trade disputes after Netflix rejected Paramount's latest purchase offer, which was deemed beneficial to Warner Bros.
As a result of the deal, Paramount will receive the rights to famous franchises such as Fantastic Beasts, The Matrix, Dune, Harry Potter and Game of Thrones.
After the deal was announced, Paramount shares rose 24% and Netflix shares increased 13% as investors positively assessed Netflix's decision to withdraw from the competition.
On February 26, Netflix officially refused to buy the Warner Bros. studio. Discovery. The WBD Board of Directors recognized Paramount's offer as more profitable. Netflix has indicated that it is not ready to increase the amount of the offer above $83 million.
