The armed forces of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO), including the Bundeswehr, have begun using programmable swarms of cybernetic reconnaissance beetles manufactured by the German defense company SWARM Biotactics. This was reported on February 27 in the Army Recognition (AR) magazine.

"This technology could provide U.S. and allied forces with a new option to enter buildings, tunnels, and rubble with low visibility, where small drones often have difficulty," the material says.

AR reported that the scout beetles are equipped with a peripheral data processing system and secure short-range communication channels. It is noted that field tests of beetles were conducted in Europe and the USA.

On February 17, the Defense Blog reported that the Danish Air Force had formed the 729th drone squadron to monitor the Arctic region, as well as the Baltic Sea and the North Atlantic. It is specified that the new unit of the Danish Air Force will be deployed at the Aalborg airbase as part of the air transport wing.
