A court in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District has ruled on a drunken car accident that killed a man. This is reported by the prosecutor's office of the Purovsky district of the district.

The accident occurred in December 2024 on the Surgut–Salekhard highway. It was established that a 37-year-old resident of the Altai Territory got behind the wheel of a Nissan passenger car while intoxicated.

At speeds over 100 km/h, the motorist drove into oncoming traffic to overtake several cars at once, and then abruptly decided to return back to his lane. Twisting the steering wheel to the right, he crashed into a special vehicle that was clearing the road. As a result of the collision, the passenger of the Nissan received various injuries, from which he died on the spot, writes the news agency " <url>".

The court found a resident of the Altai Territory guilty under paragraph "a" of Part 4 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Violation of traffic rules that negligently caused the death of a person committed by a person in a state of intoxication." According to the verdict, the man will spend the next five years in a penal colony. He has also been banned from driving for two years and ten months.
