- Forensic experts have confirmed the authenticity of the manuscript of Tatiana Onegin's letter
Experts from the Center for Forensic Expertise have confirmed the authenticity of a previously unknown manuscript of a letter from Tatiana Onegin from Alexander Pushkin's novel Eugene Onegin. This work and the expert opinion on it were handed over to the owner on February 27.
Until that time, only two original versions of the letter were known: a rough draft and a final draft prepared for publication. The new discovery indicates the existence of another copy intended to be sent to the censor.
According to Elena Kiseleva, head of the technical expertise department of the RFTSE, during a microscopic examination it was possible to determine that the paper on which the document is written consists of linen fibers characteristic of the rag paper used at that time.
In addition, a grid is visible on the surface of the manuscript, which was used in the production of paper by hand.
"Thus, the experts came to the conclusion that, indeed, the paper of the document under study corresponds to the period," she noted.
On November 15 last year, the Kaliningrad Regional Museum of History and Art showed for the first time a letter written by Pushkin from Tatiana to Onegin from the novel "Eugene Onegin". It was noted that the authenticity of the document had been confirmed.
