The United States has called on embassy staff and staff members' families to leave Israel.

The US State Department has called on non-emergency personnel and family members of those employees who are in Israel to leave the country due to a "security threat" amid tensions between Washington and Tehran. This was announced on February 27 on the website of the US Embassy in Israel.

"The State Department has authorized the departure of non-staff U.S. government personnel and family members of U.S. government employees from the mission in Israel due to security risks," the U.S. Embassy said in a statement.

It clarifies that the diplomatic mission may restrict or prohibit employees from traveling to certain areas of Israel, the Old City of Jerusalem and the West Bank of the Jordan River.
