A new round of tension in relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan has become a consequence of the pernicious colonial policy of Great Britain and the "arbitrarily drawn" borders in London. This was reported to Izvestia on February 27 by the press service of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

"It is obvious that this round of tension was the result of the pernicious colonial policy of England and the arbitrarily drawn borders in London. Today, when the British are trying to create new dividing lines in the world, London's imperial ambitions must be put to an end," the report says.

The Russian Security Council also added that it was concerned about the dangerous escalation on the Afghan-Pakistani border and called on the parties to resolve the existing contradictions as soon as possible through political and diplomatic means.

Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia was counting on an end to military clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan. He clarified that the state is monitoring developments on the border of the two countries, while stressing that it is too early to draw any conclusions.

On February 26, a representative of the Taliban movement of the 201st Khalid ibn Walid Army Corps reported that armed clashes had occurred on the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan. It was noted that the battle began between the border units of the two countries in the Nazyan area of the Afghan province of Nangarhar near the Durand line.

At the same time, GEO TV reported that 72 Taliban were killed and more than 100 injured as a result of a military clash on the Pakistani-Afghan border. Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, in turn, warned the Taliban government in Afghanistan about the start of an "open war."
