- Orban announced the creation of a commission on the Druzhba oil pipeline with Slovakia
Hungary and Slovakia have agreed to create a joint investigative commission to determine the condition of the Druzhba oil pipeline. This was announced on February 27 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
"I have agreed with [Slovak Prime Minister] Robert Fico that we will create a joint investigative commission," he said in a video posted on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
Orban clarified that the task of this investigative commission will be to visit the pipeline and verify the reality of what is happening.
According to the Prime Minister, not only Hungary, but also Slovakia is currently under an oil blockade. He added that Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky and his country are engaged in blocking Druzhba.
"There are no technical or technological obstacles, the pipeline was closed solely for political reasons," Orban concluded.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov yesterday called Kiev's actions with the Druzhba oil pipeline sabotage. According to him, Moscow sees the consistent position of Budapest and Bratislava, which defend their interests.
On the same day, Orban demanded that the EU check the condition of the Druzhba pipeline. It was specified that the group should include experts from Hungary and Slovakia.
The Politico newspaper reported that Ukraine was asking the European Commission (EC) for help in organizing the logistics of oil supplies to Slovakia and Hungary amid the situation with the termination of fuel supplies via the Druzhba pipeline. According to the newspaper, the Ukrainian authorities, in their appeal to the EC, offered to supply fuel to Hungary and Slovakia through their transport system or the ports of the Black Sea.
