Russia expresses concern about the sharp escalation of clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan and calls on the parties to abandon confrontation. This was announced on February 27 by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova.

"We are concerned about the sharp escalation of armed clashes between the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, which involve regular army units, aircraft and heavy weapons," she said in a statement on the agency's website.

The text clarifies that as a result of what is happening, dead and wounded people were recorded on both sides, including civilians. Moscow, as emphasized in the same place, calls on its friendly Kabul and Islamabad to return to the negotiating table to resolve all differences through political and diplomatic means.

Fighting has engulfed the border areas and major cities of Afghanistan.

Armed clashes were reported on the Afghan-Pakistani border the night before. According to GEO TV, 72 people were killed and another 100 injured as a result of the incident.

On February 27, Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, in an address to the Afghan side, announced the beginning of an "open war" with it. On the same day, powerful explosions thundered in Kabul, and it also became known about the defeat of a Pakistani Air Force aircraft over Afghanistan.

After a while, the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Afghanistan, Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Zamir Kabulov, addressing these conflicting countries, called on them to stop mutual attacks as soon as possible and to resolve differences diplomatically.
