The Vatican is ready to mediate between the United States and Cuba, and Havana intends to discuss the Holy See's proposals and settlement efforts. This was announced on February 26 by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, who is in Rome, Nova news agency reported on February 26, citing confidential sources.

"Rodriguez intends to discuss with the Holy See the possibility of mediation between Pope Leo XIV and US President Donald Trump. <...> The Vatican has already expressed its willingness to interfere in this dossier," the publication says.

Presumably, Mike Hammer, Charge d'affaires of the US Embassy in Havana, who is also in Rome, will participate in the negotiations.

By all indications, the Holy See is concerned about relations between the United States and Cuba, given the public statements of the pontiff and the messages of the Cuban bishops. Nova sources note that in the Vatican, despite the remaining channels of communication, the mediation mission in relations between Pope Leo and Trump is being carried out with difficulties.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak reported on February 22 that Russia continues to work on providing assistance to Cuba, which is facing fuel shortages caused by the US energy blockade. The United States has resumed the blockade of Cuba, declaring its intention to overthrow the communist government of the republic in one way or another.

On February 26, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called for preventing provocative actions against Cuba, noting that the situation there was escalating. He also stressed the importance of resolving the humanitarian issue.
