Reports about the alleged negotiations between the delegations of Russia and the United States on a new nuclear arms control treaty in Geneva are misinformation. This statement was made on February 26 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"This is just an example of, I don't know, distortion, disinformation, fakes. I will leave to your judgment the question of whether in this case we are talking about deliberate distortion," the diplomat stressed at a briefing.

Zakharova pointed out that such messages often appear after passing information "through the prism of a journalist's perception," which thus analyzes "primary information."

Sky News reported earlier in the day that peace talks on resolving the conflict in Ukraine had begun in Geneva with the participation of representatives from Kiev and Washington. The day before, it was reported that the trilateral meeting of representatives of Russia, the United States and Ukraine was postponed to early March.

In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov pointed out that the issue of possible supplies of nuclear weapons to Kiev could be raised during the discussion as part of a new round of negotiations. He added that issues of strategic stability and security remain an integral part of the discussion of the situation around Ukraine.
