Andrey Tumanov, Chairman of the Moscow Horticultural Union, gave advice to summer residents on spring seedlings.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Thursday, February 26, he noted that on the eve of the summer season, many gardeners turn to folk signs, trying to understand what spring will be like and whether to expect an early harvest, but experts advise treating such forecasts with irony.

According to him, the real signs of a successful harvest are not related to omens, but to the quality of the planting material. A common mistake of novice summer residents is planting garlic, bought at the market or left over from food, which often leads to a bad result. He explained that many imported varieties, including Chinese ones, are poorly adapted to Russian conditions.

The specialist added that when planning plantings, it is better to focus on the characteristics of varieties and weather conditions, rather than on the national calendar. He stressed that the end of February is suitable only for experienced gardeners with the necessary equipment, while it is better for beginners to start sowing closer to April. According to him, the key to a good harvest is a competent choice of varieties and patience.

Also on February 26, it became known that from March 1, owners of suburban areas in Russia may face fines of up to 700 thousand rubles for the presence of dangerous plants. Lawyer Ilya Rusyaev said that this is not only about Sosnovsky hogweed, but also about other dangerous species, the list of which is established by the regions, writes RT. According to him, according to federal law No. 294-FZ of July 31, 2025, owners are required to deal with such plants, otherwise they face fines from 20 to 50 thousand rubles for citizens, up to 100 thousand rubles for officials and up to 700 thousand rubles for legal entities, the website notes. kp.ru .

Biologist and agronomist Mikhail Vorobyov, in an interview with the Moscow City News agency on February 19, said that summer residents should visit their plots to shake off tree branches and clear the greenhouses of accumulated snow, otherwise there is a high probability of broken branches and structural damage. He noted that coniferous trees, such as junipers, thuja, and fruit trees with thickened crowns, such as apple trees, cherries, and plums, are most often affected by snow accumulation.

On February 11, Vorobyov told Moscow 24 that the main task at the site now is to prepare for waterlogging: to clean drainage ditches so that meltwater does not flood the beds. It is also worth removing snow from gazebos and canopies, since by the end of winter its layer can create a load of several tons.

In December, lawyer Maria Sviridova, in a conversation with the National Security Council, called for tougher penalties for summer residents. Many owners of suburban areas are unable to change the situation on their land, because their buildings were created by their ancestors, and there is no room for maneuver on the site.
