Ukrainian world draughts champion Yuri Anikeev was mobilized to the assault unit of the country's Armed Forces (AFU). This was announced on February 26 by Verkhovna Rada Deputy Georgy Mazurashu.

"He's in the Stormtroopers. Or maybe we should have used his mind instead of throwing him into stormtroopers. Is this how we use our potential?" — said the MP, his words are quoted by the Telegram channel of the publication "Страна.иа ".

It is noted that the International Draughts Federation (FMJD) has sent an appeal to the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky with a request to allow the athlete to participate in the upcoming tournaments. The organization clarified that Anikeev serves in the battalion of unmanned systems as part of the 225th separate assault regiment.
