Roscosmos has agreed to train the first Myanmar cosmonaut.
Russia and Myanmar have agreed to cooperate in the training of the first Myanmar cosmonaut, and a corresponding memorandum was signed following the talks in Naypyidaw. On February 26, the Roscosmos state corporation announced this in the Telegram channel.
Dmitry Bakanov, the head of the corporation, made a working trip to Myanmar, where he was received by the Head of the Republic, Min Aung Hlaing. During the visit, the Russian-Myanmar memorandum on the development of cooperation in the field of manned space exploration was signed. The document was signed on February 25 following Bakanov's talks with the Director General of the Myanmar Space Agency, Dr. Soe Myint Maung. As part of its implementation, Roscosmos is ready to ensure the selection and training of the first cosmonaut from the republic.
"Another significant step has been taken in the field of cooperation between Russia and Myanmar," Bakanov said.
In addition, the parties reached agreements on the deployment of a measurement collection station for the GLONASS system in Myanmar. It is also planned to work out the placement of a space object tracking station (an automated warning system for dangerous situations in near-Earth space).
A site has already been allocated for the construction of the station on the territory of the Myanmar Aerospace Engineering University. The head of the republic, in turn, expressed interest in integrating the country into the project of launching student nanosatellites.
During the visit, the Russian delegation got acquainted with the exposition of the Myanmar Space Agency, where mock-ups of Russian rockets are presented. Sergey Krikalev, Deputy Director General of Roscosmos, held meetings with Myanmar students and schoolchildren interested in space exploration and gave lectures on the history of space exploration.
Bakanov announced on December 3 that Russia and India will interact and cooperate in the field of space. We are talking about assistance in the areas of engine building, manned space exploration, the creation of national orbital stations, as well as personnel training and rocket fuel.
The head of Roscosmos clarified that the Russian side has advanced experience in space engines and orbital space, however, within the framework of cooperation, the countries will not "share" technologies, but mutually beneficial coordination with each other.
