Nikitin pointed to Russia's readiness to restore flights with Cuba.
Russia is ready to restore flights to Cuba this year, but solutions are needed from the other side. This was announced on February 26 by the head of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation Andrey Nikitin.
"For our part, we want this (the resumption of flights with Cuba. — Ed.), we are ready for this, we need solutions from that side," RIA Novosti quoted Nikitin as saying.
According to him, the issue of resuming flights will depend on the availability of fuel and the possibility of refueling on the island.
On February 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, called the new restrictions against the island state unacceptable. He also noted that the two countries have historical relations.
At the same time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia was calling on the United States to refrain from plans to impose a naval blockade of Cuba. According to him, such steps are fraught with serious destabilization of the situation in the region. He added that Russia will consistently continue to support Cuba in protecting its sovereignty and security.
