Warsaw needs to soberly assess changes in US foreign policy, since America's national interests do not always fully coincide with Poland's interests. This was announced on February 26 by the Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Radoslaw Sikorski.

"We have been and will remain America's loyal allies, but we cannot be suckers," the minister said, speaking at the Sejm.

According to Sikorsky, the priority of the current US administration is to protect its own territory, the Western Hemisphere and the Indo-Pacific region. With this approach, Europe recedes into the background, and Washington considers Russia as a "potential partner for an economic reset."

"America is changing. We can either admit the facts and prepare accordingly, or close our eyes and ears," Sikorski added.

He also noted that Europe had been enjoying the "peace dividends" for too long. Now she will have to take on more responsibility for her own safety.

On February 14, Sikorsky expressed doubt about the right of Washington, which refused to provide Kiev with military support, to play a leading role in the negotiation process to resolve the conflict. According to him, the costs of the American side to finance the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are close to zero, and there are no prospects for providing new aid packages to Kiev. Based on this, he stressed that the European side, which is investing in the conflict, "deserves" a place at the negotiating table, since their outcome will affect it.
