Roskomnadzor has blocked 469 VPN services in Russia by the end of February 2026. This was announced on February 26 by the press service of the department.

"In accordance with the rules for centralized management of a public communications network, approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 127 dated 12.02.2020, Roskomnadzor restricts access to 469 VPN services," RIA Novosti reports.

At the same time, in January, the agency reported that more than 400 VPN services were blocked in 2025.

Last July, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that prohibits the advertising of VPN services. For example, for distributing ads for VPNs and similar tools that give access to banned sites, a fine of up to 80 thousand rubles will be imposed on Russian citizens, up to 150 thousand rubles for officials, and up to 500 thousand rubles for organizations.

At the same time, Anton Gorelkin, deputy head of the State Duma Committee on information Policy, said that Russians would be able to freely use VPN services only for any legitimate purposes.
