Putting a million SpaceX satellites into orbit could threaten the state of the atmosphere and worsen space visibility. This was reported on February 26 by New Scientist.

Scientists have expressed concern about SpaceX's plans to put a huge group of satellites into orbit, which could lead to a deterioration in the atmosphere and increased light pollution. The article clarifies that on January 30, Elon Musk's company submitted an application for the deployment of one million devices.

This project involves the creation of orbital data centers for artificial intelligence, which significantly exceeds the current number of active satellites, amounting to 14.5 thousand units.

At the same time, as noted in the publication, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is not required to assess the environmental consequences of such a large-scale project, which is criticized by experts.

"We are deeply concerned. We are not against satellites, but we believe that it should be done responsibly," said Ruskin Hartley, CEO of DarkSky International.

In addition, astronomers warn that the constant combustion of spacecraft that fail can lead to the accumulation of aluminum oxide in the stratosphere, which will have a devastating effect on the ozone layer. Also, tens of thousands of new objects will make space observations almost impossible.
