Oncologist Victoria Likhacheva listed the reasons for going to the doctor. According to her, the increase in the number of breast cancer cases is primarily due to improved diagnosis and screening.

In an interview with the Health Mail on Wednesday, February 25, she noted that the disease is increasingly being detected at an early stage during routine checkups, which significantly improves the prognosis.

The main risk factors include heredity, age over 45, hormonal disorders, excess weight after menopause, smoking and alcohol. The doctor noted that self—examination is useful, but it does not replace diagnosis: before the age of 40, ultrasound is the main method, after that mammography, which allows you to detect the disease even before the symptoms appear.

The expert stressed that if there are seals in the breast, changes in shape, discharge from the nipple or enlarged lymph nodes, you need to consult a doctor. She added that the main preventive measure is regular checkups, as well as weight control, physical activity and giving up bad habits.

Earlier, on February 25, oncologist, mammologist, and chemotherapist Natalia Ponomareva told Izvestia that screening allows cancer to be detected before symptoms appear. Different methods of early detection have been developed for each type of tumor.
