Britain and France are seeking to strengthen their negotiating positions by transferring nuclear weapons to Kiev. This was announced on February 25 on the air of the LBC radio station by Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrey Kelin.

"I must point out the danger of transferring nuclear weapons (to Ukraine — Ed.), because in the context of the Ukrainian crisis, some want to change the rules of the game, which is very dangerous <...> London and Paris are probably working on the possibility of transferring components, technologies or equipment for nuclear weapons to Ukraine, just to strengthen their positions abroad at the negotiating table," RIA Novosti quoted the ambassador as saying.

Kelin recalled that the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, had previously declared his nuclear ambitions. According to the ambassador, he spoke about the possession of nuclear weapons as an alternative to joining NATO.

On February 24, the press bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) announced plans by London and Paris to secretly transfer nuclear weapons to Kiev. After that, the Federation Council called on the French and British sides to conduct parliamentary investigations, and the chairman of the instance, Valentina Matvienko, stressed that Ukraine's status as a nuclear-weapon-free state was not subject to revision.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on February 24 that Russia's opponents, who "do not disdain any means," understand how an attempt to use nuclear weapons can end. He added that Western countries are trying to disrupt the peace negotiation process in this way.
