TEC announced India's first purchase of Venezuelan oil since 2023
In February, India purchased the first batch of Venezuelan oil from the American Chevron corporation since 2023. This was reported on February 25 by The Economic Times (TEC) newspaper, citing sources and shipping data.
According to the newspaper, the importer of oil was the Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries, which has not purchased Venezuelan energy resources from Chevron since December 2023. To deliver heavy Merey crude from Venezuela to India, traders chartered three large-capacity tankers capable of carrying up to 2 million barrels each.
"The use of large vessels capable of carrying up to 2 million barrels of oil each is expected to reduce transportation costs for traders and buyers, eliminate the shortage of small tankers and accelerate the pace of shipments starting next month, which could quickly deplete the millions of barrels stored in Venezuela," the newspaper writes.
On February 24, American leader Donald Trump said that the United States had received more than 80 million barrels of oil from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. On February 1, Acting President of the Republic Delcy Rodriguez announced the first delivery of liquefied petroleum gas from Venezuela. Without revealing the destination of the vessel that contained the goods, she clarified that all proceeds would be distributed for the benefit of the Venezuelan people.
