- Police officers were sentenced to 7.5 years in prison for embezzlement of 10 million rubles in Domodedovo
The Domodedovo City Court found Nikolai Petrov and Konstantin Terentyev guilty of theft and abuse of authority by employees of the linear department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs at Domodedovo airport. They were sentenced to 7 years and 6 months of imprisonment in a general regime colony. This was reported to Izvestia in court on February 25.
In addition to imprisonment, those convicted for 2.5 years are deprived of the right to hold positions in law enforcement agencies and are required to pay a fine of 500 thousand rubles each.
A criminal case was initiated after the theft of money from the storage room of unclaimed luggage. The investigation found that Petrov and Terentyev, while on duty, learned about two suitcases with 80 million rubles belonging to a citizen of Kyrgyzstan.
The baggage was not allowed to fly by customs officers on the Moscow — Bishkek flight and was transferred to the unclaimed baggage room. Using their official position, the police entered into a criminal conspiracy, after which they opened one of the suitcases and secretly stole 10 million rubles.
Retired Rear Admiral Nikolai Kovalenko, accused of embezzling 592 million rubles from the Russian Defense Ministry, was sentenced on February 16 to four years and six months in a penal colony and released due to illness. He was fined 500 thousand rubles.
